Why does most people fail in losing weight? Statistically, failures in weight loss programs are higher than successes. In America, millions are failing in their hope of losing weight. Some just don’t have the proper attitude and some just can’t endure what it takes to succeed.

One misconception that has plagued most weight loss enthusiasts is that suddenly decreasing the amount of food you eat can make you lose weight fast. They think that with little food intake, the body will burn the extra calories faster. But the reverse happens because the body will go into starvation mode and will metabolize food slower for energy conservation. That’s how the body works, sudden changes can bring about automatic responses that may not conform to your goal.

Abruptly cutting the intake of food seems to be the solution for many. The logic seems simple, cut on calories and you burn the excess fats. HOwever, the body may respond differently when the food intake which it is used to is suddenly decreased. It goes into starvation mode which results in lesser metabolic rate to conserve on energy. Put simply, your body’s metabolic rate will decrease when it senses a sudden decrease in food consumption.

But if you decrease your food intake gradually, then your body will adjust to it naturally and your success will become much brighter. Gradual is the key here. Abrupt changes can ruin not only your metabolic rate but also the change in the quantity of nutrients and vitamins can make you less than healthy.

Working on a weight loss program by yourself may not be effective. You need some support system to get you on the way to succeed in losing weight. Your support system may be someone who has the same goals as you regarding losing weight. That way you may encourage each other to reach your goals. Other support system may include your physical exercise trainer and your doctor. It’s better to involve others as this speed up your success.

Unrealistic goals can hamper your chance for success. Don’t expect to lose 30 pounds in just ten days. It will only frustrate you that by the end of your target, you don’t achieve 20 percent of your goal. When this happens, the harder it will get.

Set goals in realistic small steps, one at a time. The more you see little results, the easier it will be to succeed in each step. Have patience and let your body adjust to each step gracefully.

Exercise and diet is not the only requirement for successful weight loss. How you see yourself inside your mind is equally important. Always start from within and the outside will follow. Love yourself each step of the way and imagine yourself progressing as you go along. Visualization is very important while doing the exercise and diet.
