Thinking of losing weight? You’re not alone. Thousands of people of all ages are going to the plastic surgeon to remedy their fat problems. Only movie stars used to do this but these nowadays a lot of people are doing it. Why is fat removal common today? Because it works!

There are two alternatives which most people choose – liposuction and the “tummy tuck” or abdominoplasty. You may be a good candidate for one or the other and the results vary. Let’s examine the differences.

Liposuction is an operation where the doctor inserts a little straw-like device and actually sucks the fatty tissue out of your body. Most people are aware of this operation and it has been popular for years. It can be used to target specific trouble areas.

Abdominoplasty is a combination procedure. The doctor makes incisions and removes unwanted tissue. Then the surgeon readjusts the tissue that remains so you have a firmer stomach. Sometimes a little lipo is involved too.

Should you opt for a tummy tuck or a lipo? Your particular fat problem will tell which procedure is good for you. If you have an abdominal fat problem (as most people do at the age of 30), a tummy tuck will probably be right for you. It works against the bulge that develops on your lower abdomen through the years. It removes not only fat but also other tissues as well to make a flatter stomach.

Liposuction is better if your problem is not so localized. In other words, you’ve got pockets of fat hanging here and there that you can do without. It can be a small or big operation as needed and it can be used to target certain areas – not just the belly.
