To have an original home pancake mix you do not have to go far from your pantry and you certainly do not have to use an prepackaged foods from the local grocery store. If you cook or bake with any frequency in your own home then you should have no problem putting together an original mix that is either light, fluffy and thick or thin, chalked full of fruit and can fill you up with one serving.
The ingredients that you will need for you’re at home pancake mix are: flour, sugar, eggs, vanilla, salt, baking powder, baking soda, milk and vegetable oil. Depending on how many pancakes you want is depending on how much you mix.
If you like a thicker pancake then look to adding more flour to your recipe. If you desire a thinner pancake then add more milk. If this is your original mix then play with the ingredients to get it to your desired texture.
There is always time to play with texture after you have a tester pancake when you are ready to cook. Place the desired amount of batter on a preheated hot plate, skillet or frying pan. About 1/4 cup of batter should make a reasonable size pancake that a novice can easily turn. About 1/2 cup of batter is desired for a more seasoned pancake flipper.
Once the sides of the pancake start to bubble and turn brown this is the time to flip and continuing cooking on the other side. If this is still your tester pancake then you can adjust the flour, milk, or size on the next pour.
You can also add some fresh fruit or chocolate chips into the batter to make it a little thicker. Only do this if you have found the right consistency of your batter.
With the new fruit ingredients in there, they will mix in completely when you flip the pancake over.
So next time you go to the pantry to get your pancake mix and to you dismay, you find you don’t have any, don’t fret. You can make you own pancakes from scratch.
