Perhaps you have been thinking lately that you would like to lose weight. You want to look better and be able to wear smaller clothes. Sure that can be a motivator for you, but the real reason to want fat loss is better health.

Dropping fat reduces the risks of heart disease which can cause heart attacks and strokes. One of the main contributors to heart disease is high blood pressure. High blood pressure is more common in people who are overweight because the heart has to work harder. Even lowering blood pressure just a little will have huge benefits.

Additionally, levels of triglycerides (fat in the blood) are higher with heavier people. The so-called \’good cholesterol\’ is lower and the \’bad cholesterol\’ is higher. This leads to clogged arteries and poor blood flow. This not only raises the risk of and heart attacks, but also leads to bad circulation.

It also leads to poor blood circulation. This means oxygen is not being delivered throughout the body as it should be. The brain is one of those places. Less oxygen to the brain can cause trouble sleeping, mood swings and inability to concentrate.

Due to the way the body breaks down food, overweight folks are more likely to develop diabetes. A high blood sugar level is dangerous. Obesity has been shown to increase sugar levels.

Studies have indicated that obesity and being overweight dramatically increases the chances for various types of cancer. Colon, kidney, and prostate cancers are more common in those who have gained significant amounts of weight. Post-menstrual breast cancer is also higher among heavier women.

The good news is that losing even a little fat will start you on your way to drastic health improvements. Bad health habits, like poor eating can create a loop of poor health and continued poor eating. The opposite is true with good eating habits. The healthier you become, the more capable you are of exercising. In turn, as you exercise more, the healthier you will get! It is a cycle of good.

And let\’s not forget that looking better will boost self esteem and make a happier you. Being happy and having a good attitude actually have great health benefits of their own. So make a decision to start eating healthier and getting regular exercise. Start out slowly so you don\’t push yourself too hard and cause an injury. You don\’t want to get mentally burned out either.

Once you see a little fat loss you will be motivated to continue. Take it at your own pace and reward yourself with non-food treats. Like a new pair of jeans once you can fit into a new size. Good luck!
