Most of us have a pretty good idea what we’re going to do all day. Even on our day off we have a plan for what we want to get done and that means that something actually does get done. Unfortunately, with exercise it’s a little more hit or miss.
Think about it: Would you take a vacation on the spur of the moment? If you did, you’d be sleeping in your car or worse, in a flea-bag motel. The same thing is true of other areas of your life, yes, including fitness. Lack of planning or poor planning leads to disastrous results.
I think everyone knows about how exercise helps but here’s some of the benefits you can expect from a daily exercise plan:
1. More energy
2. Better mood
3. Weight loss
4. Longevity (live to see your grandkids grow up)
5. Happier attitude
With all of these wonderful benefits that come from daily exercise you have to wonder why so many people do without it.
One complaint about exercise is that it takes too much time. If you are busy with parenting, career, extracurricular activities and such, there is no perfect place to add in exercise. So, it gets sacrificed for other things. The problem is that exercise is not considered a priority and that’s a mistake.
Reading over that list is usually enough to convince people that maybe moving exercise up the priority list is a good idea.
Without a regular exercise plan, your energy levels start to drop and that brings a loss of focus. Just a short exercise session a day can bring back your focus with a burst of energy.
Exercise needs to be planned into your scheduled as a priority just like any other event in your life. You wouldn’t think of leaving the house without brushing your teeth or combing your hair because looking good is a top priority for most people. Try to adopt the same attitude for exercise and make it a “must have”.
One good idea is to have a special place set aside for exercise. Doesn’t have to be a room full of exercise equipment, it can just be a corner where you have room to move. This will be your spot where you get into the habit of getting in a workout.
Once you have your place laid out it will make it a lot quicker and easier to get going. All the overhead time of getting set up will be out of the way and you can get on with your day a lot quicker.
When exercise is planned for, it works into our schedules just like ballet recitals and sports practices. You reap the benefits of increased energy and a more productive nature therefore, a longer, happier life too.
