Do you know people who are compulsive planners? The kind who carry around a little book with what they have planned for every day of the week? In general, these people probably get a lot more done than those who take a hit or miss approach. Unfortunately, all too often exercise seems to somehow drop out of the plan and into the afterthought category.
Would you tackle a building project around the house without a plan? Probably wouldn’t turn out very good if you did. This same attitude pays off in other areas of your life and that includes exercise. As the saying goes, fail to plan and you can plan to fail.
I think everyone knows about how exercise helps but here’s some of the benefits you can expect from a daily exercise plan:
1. More energy
2. Improvement in your mood
3. Weight loss (look good in that bikini or those Speedos)
4. Longer, healthier life
5. Happier attitude
Those sound like great benefits, huh? Of course they are which makes you wonder why it’s so easy to put it exercise and healthy living on the back burner.
One complaint about exercise is that it takes too much time. If you are busy with parenting, career, extracurricular activities and such, there is no perfect place to add in exercise. So, it gets sacrificed for other things. The problem is that exercise is not considered a priority and that’s a mistake.
Just look back up at the list above and you’ll see reasons that exercise SHOULD be a priority in your life.
What happens when you lose your energy? You also lose your focus. Those 15 minutes that you spend trying to “get it back together” is just enough time for a short workout session.
So, what if you scheduled exercise just like you do everything else in your day? Add it into your schedule so that it is given a place of importance and not relegated to your “I will do if I have time” list.
One good idea is to have a special place set aside for exercise. Doesn’t have to be a room full of exercise equipment, it can just be a corner where you have room to move. This will be your spot where you get into the habit of getting in a workout.
Instead of taking ten minutes to find your dumbbells and move clothes, you can start immediately. That 15 minute workout is just that – only 15 minutes! Once you’ve completed it, you’re free to do the next thing on your list.
Plan out your exercise and work it into your schedule and you will get the benefits of more productivity, increase in energy and a happier life.
