A survey revealed that 36% of women are cheating on their diet plans. The results from 2,000 women, are no particular shock, but they do come as a timely reminder about good (and less good) weight loss habits. If your diet is slipping already, here are a couple of common problems the surveyed women faced, and how to solve them.

In 40% of the cases, the dieter was tempted to eat something forbidden by their partners. If your spouse or close friend is sitting there enjoying a box of candy the chances are better than even that you will partake as well. The best solution is to have your friend or loved one on board and barring that you can try brushing your teeth or chewing gum to avoid the tempting treats.

25% were tempted when eating out at a restaurant. However good your intentions, it’s very hard to just pick a salad when you’re eating out. Try making a restaurant trip an occasional treat, rather than a weekly indulgence – good for your wallet as well as your waistline. Then you can have whatever you like, without worrying that it’ll ruin all your efforts.

The study found that “each woman polled had tried to slim down an average of eight times.” This isn’t much surprise, many of us attempt diet plans and don’t succeed. But, I wonder whether the anxieties about “cheating” played a role in this.

Eating healthy is not a temporary occurrence. You can find many wonderful guidelines pertaining to eating healthy, but no rules. The main thing to dieting is that you must burn more calories than you consume whether this is for a day, week, month or even a year.

A key though to keep in mind is that cheating a couple of times, slipping up or eating at a restaurant are not diet failures.

More than half the women surveyed said that they’d lied about what they’d eaten. This probably reinforced feelings of secrecy and guilt. Rather than lying when you’re having a bad day, find a friend who you can confide in – someone who’ll support and encourage you, and who won’t judge you or put you down.

There are a few keys that will help you avoid cheating on your diet. You can employ any number of them to assist, but remember, even if you do end up cheating a little, it’s not the end of the world. Call it a day and start your diet plan again. It’s only a problem if you give up and lose focus.

You want a diet that will finally help you trim some weight off, so you will need to avoid certain foods, however do not be quick to judge yourself a cheater. If you do, you will give up faster than you can imagine and you will surely not lose any weight.
