Every month popular magazines tout new and amazing fat burning diets. Advertisements promote diet pills and supplements. All claim to be the best fat burning diet plan or the best way to lose weight. Convincing endorsements makes these diets seem legitimate and worth trying.
The difficult part comes when we try to separate fact from fiction within these advertisements. Some of the suggestions on offer are not only unhealthy but unachievable too so here are a few tips to help you find a diet that will work and give you the results you are looking for.
Finding a scientific basis for a diet plan is a good place to start. Let’s take the popular grapefruit diet, for example. It’s a healthy foodstuff, rich in vitamin C and low in calories but it has never been scientifically proven to be the natural fat burner as we have been led to believe.
Very low calorie diets with only the minimum amounts of protein are not a good long term plan. You will see an initial rapid weight loss but this weight will not stay off. Our bodies require certain amounts of protein to function properly and tone up our muscles. In the absence of protein the calorie burning process slows down and contrary to the results we are seeking, an increase in weight is often noticeable.
Ignore any form of diet plan that does not involve effort. You will not lose weight without following a diet plan and taking regular exercise.
A good variation of food is an essential part of any diet regime. The exclusion of any of the basic food groups will not provide you with a well balanced diet so don’t limit yourself to only one or two kinds of food. You will not get the long term results you are looking for.
Avoid detoxification diets – they can be dangerous. If the organs of your body are not removing toxins naturally it’s a doctor you need to see first and foremost.
After an opening period of quick weight loss, if you are following a healthy and well balanced diet and taking regular exercise you should see a slow but steady drop in weight. This is really the best way forward.
Small changes can make a big difference. One dieter lost weight simply by changing from whole milk to reduced fat milk. Small successes encourage people to continue their weight management regimens. On the other hand, complicated dieting rules and unrealistic expectations often lead to frustration and failure.
By following a fat burning diet based on physical activity and healthy eating, dieters learn how to make healthy food choices and how to integrate weight management into their daily routines. Slow and steady changes in behavior mark success. After all, weight management is a lifelong process, not a quick fix.
