It can be tough to admit how much maintenance our body needs over time. It doesn’t even have to be very much time. We spend money on making our bodies look better or buying things that aid us in our senses. We buy low cost hearing aids and low cost eye glasses just to get by. Since hearing and seeing are a basic need that we need in order to live, looking for something that isn’t expensive is important.
The quality of our life depends on how we take care of it now and in the future. It’s our choice to let age get the best of us or to fight back. In looking at hearing loss, which we may not realize is especially sensitive, we sometimes take advantage of the loud music we hear or sounds that hurt our eardrums. We miss seeing how much our hearing is a part of us. Unfortunately, it tends to take the loss of something to truly appreciate it.
Hearing loss affects all ages and learning to do what it takes to fix or help this is essential. As a baby, the first sounds you hear are what mold you into the person you grow up to be. A baby needs to hear a parents voice, especially when they are attempting to exercise caution. Many babies who have hearing problems are able to get this taken care of before they get older and avoid problems later.
Everyone can be affected by hearing loss, including teenagers. Just because you’re on your way to becoming an adult doesn’t mean you are without the possibility of problems. The problem that comes with this is the fact that teenagers may not want to speak up for fear of embarrassment. No teenager wants to be wearing a hearing aid as it’s seen as something only old people wear.
The elderly are more commonly seen wearing hearing aids. They may not want to wear them, but they would rather wear them and not miss out on hearing something important. As you get older and your eyesight deteriorates, it’s more important to hear all that you can. This could be your grandchild calling out to you or your son or daughter needing you to listen to the things they have going on in their lives. Listening becomes more important the older you get so you should be able to do that without difficulty.
There are special moments in our life that require us to be a good listener. As a teenager, you should listen to your parents when they give you advice about something. As a grown-up, you need to listen to the advice of your friends when you’re having a bad day. As an elderly person, you want to hear your grandchild when they try to talk to you. The list is endless, but being sure you don’t miss any of it is the key.
Be smart about how you take care of yourself as you get older. Sometimes you may not want to admit that you’ll look old with those low cost hearing aids or bifocals, but if they help you appreciate the life that you’ve been given, so be it. Don’t miss out on something great because it’s hard to accept what father time has done. Just accept it, be thankful for the many tools that aid in this area and move on with your life without missing a beat.
