A large part of our nation requires prescription drugs to manage a slew of medical conditions such as dangerous weight gain, heart conditions, insulin complications, compromised immune systems and other serious ills that can shorten an otherwise healthy lifespan, which is why finding out about superfoods is so important.

Research on superfoods has finally hit the masses and has been made available to us, but this information is not rocket-science. I mean, if we eat healthy and nutritious food and spare ourselves from popping some of our prescription drugs from dietary changes alone, then sign me up. Not your money’s worth, but your time’s worth. I don’t know about you, but my time is very important to me. I speak from my own experience when I say that the more superfoods I consume, the better I feel. The more alert and alive I am, better able to concentrate and the more productive I become. My bank account has seen a change also. Do I mean to say that there’s a correlation between my blueberries and my income? You bet your beans I do!

Let’s meet some of the superfoods for super health:

1. Oranges: How do they pack so much vitamin C in these things? Naturally helping the immune system fight infection, there may be no more sick days for you.

2. Pumpkin: Beta Carotene, also called vitamin A, is a nutrient found in pumpkin, which is also full of fiber that is helpful to keep cholesterol low.

3. Blueberries: Dark berries contain an anti-inflammatory excellent for those suffering from fibromyalgia and other auto-immune diseases.

4. Soy: Since soy is such a versatile a product, it deserves rock star food status. As a dairy substitute we can count on soy to be used instead of milk and thus skipping the saturated fat from our cow friends and the growth hormones from the shots they get.

5. Spinach: A dark leafy green, and the choice vegetable of Popeye. No wonder, with all the calcium and iron, this plant doesn’t fall short of amazing.

6. Legumes: This versatile bean can be included in dozens of side dishes and entrees. Lots of iron, fiber and protein make this a great addition to your diet.

7. Walnuts: Oils found in walnuts can reduce low-density cholesterol and increase high-density cholesterol, which are precisely what the body requires.

8. Tea: Teas serve as a diuretic adept at helping us shed water weight.

9. Tomatoes: A fruit very high in vitamin C, tomatoes are also high in lycopene, a known cancer fighter.

10. Oats: You’ve heard the expression healthy as a horse? Must be all those oats they eat, which are chock full of fiber, which lowers your risk of heart disease and contains both protein and iron.

These ten are just a glimpse into the list of foods that are great for you and taste great too. Luckily, chocolate also counts as a superfood. Red wine, along with seeds and nuts have also made it on the longer list of superfoods as well. Who said you can’t eat your favorite foods? A plan that allows me to eat delicious foods and helps me save money on medical bills is a plan that I can work with.
