Have you ever thought about why so many of your previous attempts to lose weight have failed, even though you thought you were really motivated? Weight loss motivation is so important, but how can you keep it strong and not fall back into your old habits? Let’s look at a few ideas and help you keep that motivation going strong!

Getting Excited – The Honeymoon Period

Almost every time we start something new we go through a honeymoon period of excitement, but sometimes it wears off. You see a program on TV or see a website that motives you to buy it and get started on your new weight loss journey. You’re all excited about this new program, but then within a few weeks you’re bored with it and are back to your old routines.

What happened to your motivation? You were so excited at first, but now that excitement has died. This kind of thing happens to people all the time. Your motivation goes away because the only thing that had you going was that initial motivation! You have to find a way to keep the weight loss motivation going longer than a few weeks.

Realistic Goals – A Key to Weight Loss MOtivation

One thing you can do to keep the motivation going is make sure you are setting realistic explectations. A lot of people quit whatever program they are on because it didn’t happen as quickly as they hoped. And honestly, a lot of times they had unrealistic expectations anyway! So set some realistic goals.

It’s also important to have not just short term goals but also long term goals. If all of your goals are based on the next 2 weeks, what do you do after that? Also, most people can’t stay focused on something more than 1-3 months, so don’t set your goals too far out there.

Mix It Up & Keep it Exciting

If you get bored with whatever program you’re following you’re likely to give up on it and go back to your old habits. Find a way to mix things up from time to time to make it more fun. This will help you stick with your overall goal of losing weight.

A lot of people overlook this weight loss tip. People will keep doing the things they enjoy more than the things that they feel that they have to do. If you can find a way to get some variety into both your workout and your diet you’ll have more fun losing weight, and thus stick with it.

If you can mix things up and keep yourself motivated after the honeymoon period you’ll be much more likely to stick with your plan of losing weight for the long run. Stick with it and have fun and you’ll reach your goals!
