I believe many of us have experienced this scenario: You go on a diet, lose weight, but when you start eating “normally” you soon regain all the weight you lost. And no matter what diet you’ve been on, it ends the same way.
Hold on!This is not true for the low glycemic index diets. These will certainly make you lose weight, but also make you slim for life!
This is why the common diets don’t work: in order to make the cells in your body use the fat stored in them, you are put on a starvation diet to shift the net intake of energy to the minus side. But as a response to that your body will prepare to withhold as much of the energy in the scarce food supply as possible.
The reason for this bodily reaction is the fact that your body is smart, accommodating to the starvation situation and saving as much as possible of the available energy. This is the reason for the increasing weight gain when you stop dieting.
What makes low glycemic index diets work? This kind of diet is not primarily designed to make you lose weight, but to make you eat in a way that your body is designed for. Way back when the human body developed through evolution, do you think there where any sugar around? Or white bread? Or donuts?
Most certainly not. The problem with this kind of food, with a high glycemic index, is that makes your insulin levels rise super high as a response to your swiftly increasing blood sugar levels. These high insulin levels will cause your cells to store the sugar as fat. If you make the effort to choose food with a low glycemic index, your insulin levels will stay on a more moderate level.
And here comes the beauty of it: your cells will actually start to burn fat instead! Low glycemic index diets are the only way to lose weight for good.
Do I have to starve then? Most certainly not. Quite the contrary as a matter of fact. You will feel more content and full than ever before, and you will not get the cravings for sweets and pastry that so often is the case when you are on some other starvation diet. You will feel energetic, be in a better mood and feel less irritable.
