Even though the average weight of the population in the Western world continues to rise, this seems to have fueled the interest in health and fitness products. Perhaps this is in part to those health magazine covers with men and women who have desirable, health and fit looking bodies. As a result, gyms, health spas and other fitness centers have proliferated all over to cater to the needs of the fitness and body conscious enthusiasts.
Increasingly we are being targeted at home as well with fitness and health product advertising and sponsorship found on TV. What isn’t given enough emphasis though is the responsibility we all have to eat healthy as part of this regime and not just to expect exercise and fitness to be a cure-all. Diet and fitness are as essential as exercise itself as they provide the essential nutrition we need to restore worn-out muscles and for healthy growth as a result they should never be taken for granted. The two opposing views on this subject just confuse the issue with the high-carb and high-fat groups both saying their method is best.
Of course having this contradiction explained does help and it is all down to what sort of diet is best when you exercise. The more traditional high-carb diet camp says you need to have carbohydrates because the glycogen or glucose is stored in the muscles ready for use when performing anaerobic or what we term, short and rapid exercise.
The problem is the high-fat followers have an equally convincing argument because they say that fat is a much richer source of calories than foods rich in carbohydrates and that it metabolizes much faster. However, whichever diet you use may depend on the type of activity you perform as well but the two diets are not to be mixed up unless you want to add extra pounds to your body mass.
All this is fine if you are exercising regularly but a diet fitness regime is also about reducing the body fat. Research shows that sustainable loss of weight can only be achieved on a diet which suits the individual food preferences, lifestyle and medical profile.
Diet programs all over can help you shed off excess pounds, but only one diet can help you stay sexy, and it is the one that satisfies you most but other important aspects of having a fit diet are moderation, balance and variation. There are many diet fitness programs; the hardest part is finding one which suits your particular circumstances, but when you do it will be easier to stay with it and keep healthy.
