I Got Ripped with Exercise

When I look back it seems like I’ve been less than attractive for much of my life. By the time I hit my teens, bad eating habits caught up with me and while my arms and legs were toothpicks, I had a gut. By the time I finished high school, I had too much fat around my abdomen to be healthy.

I decided to make a change in my life, but I wasn’t entirely sure how to go about making that change. I decided to start running in mornings with my mother, who is a total fitness and health nut. I will admit there was a level of satisfaction to had in getting out and at least attempting to make a change. There was two problems, one I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted, and two, I absolutely hated it. I began to get discouraged and my motivation was fading rapidly. Just when I was ready to go back to my unhealthy ways, because I thought all hope was lost, I discovered a program that changed my life.

Then one evening (yes again on the couch eating bad food) I watch an infomercial that changed my life. The thing about it was that it was promoting an exercise program and it was the transformations of regular people that caught my eye. I mean these people were really getting fit and it seemed like it could be doable for just about anyone. Even a wimp like me had a chance.

Now I knew I needed a workout partner to keep me focused and make sure I got through the entire program. So since I had been running with my mother in the mornings, I had her take a look at the infomercial. She first thought it too hard. (It is a hard program.) But the transformations were so compelling even on the women that she decided that it might be worth a try. So we got it.

When the program came in the mail the two of us were really excited to get started. But after the first workout we were wiped out! By the end of the second workout my mother was beginning to have doubts if she could complete the 90 days of the program. But I urged her on. I knew I needed her doing it with me. After the first week, it got slightly easier and I was already seeing a change in my gut.

Of course we also watched what we ate. Half the battle is to eat properly. So gone were all the fast food lunches. But coupled with the intense workouts, our bodies totally changed by the end of the first ninety days. My mom who has had a big problem putting on fat around her middle literally burned it all off. Her back got ripped, her arms toned up. And I can say that for the first time in my life, I’ve got ‘guns’. Big biceps were something I never dreamed would happen. I’m still working on my abs to get that desired 8 pack but I’m well on my way. With eating right and exercising properly I am truly a new man.
