Eating mounds of food seems to be part of our culture. And a lot of this food is consumed at restaurants because of time famine. Now, if you decide to not eat out, your social life might take a major turn for the worse.
Fortunately, you don’t have to become a fat loss hermit to get the body you want.
So here are some things you can do to stay in shape when eating out:
1. Pick a salad with the right dressing: Dressing isn’t necessarily bad for you if you don’t abuse it. Instead, have a modest serving of an olive oil vinaigrette. Not only does olive oil fight inflammation, but it has also been shown to help people eat less calories per meal.
2. Be careful with tasty sauces and extra toppings: There are some perfectly healthy meals that simply get ruined because of the calorically dense sauces they are drenched with. A better alternative here is to simply get the sauce on the side and/or grill the server about what is in the sauce.
3. Expand the inside of your stomach: No special techniques required here, simply have a carbonated beverage before your meal arrives. My top choice is carbonated water with limes or lemons for flavor. If you don’t mind artificial sweeteners, you could go with diet sodas.
4. Make soups and vegetables your best friends: Vegetables have lots of fibrous bulk with few calories. And soups have lots of water bulk with few calories-water doesn’t have any caloric content. So if you have a soup with lots of vegetables, you will feel full with little caloric load. Just be careful with the toppings here, especially cheese.
5. Be wary of appetizers and sides: Many times, the small side dishes and the innocent looking appetizers pack the highest caloric punch. Instead, order your main course and stick to it. Don’t start pecking away at any side dishes that you aren’t familiar with because they are probably loaded with calories.
You can eat at restaurants while still losing weight. The key here is to eat out every once in a while. And this may actually help with keeping your metabolism burning. So take action on this advice today!
