If you have ever tried to lose weight and found yourself overwhelmed by negative thoughts, you can probably agree that your state of mind has a lot to do with the state of your body. Many people would call this phenomenon the “law of attraction” – creating your outer reality by the power of your thoughts. This works with weight loss in the sense that whatever you focus on the most is what is going to manifest in your outer world. Releasing negative thoughts is vital – you know, those horrible, mean, cruel things you say to yourself each day.
It is crucial to release these thoughts because they completely contradict the outcome you are trying to create, which is that slender, beautiful body you want so badly. You can spend 30 or 60 minutes each day visualizing your gorgeous body, but if you spend the rest of your time feeling angry and frustrated about the body you already have, you create a big problem.
You are in effect sending out two kinds of intentions at the same time: one tells the universe that you want to have a thin, beautiful body; at the same time, your other intention is to see yourself as being fat, uncomfortable and self-conscious about your body. Unfortunately, if the negative image is older, it is probably stronger, so it will manifest instead of the newer, more positive image.
The solution is simple, but not always easy: don’t allow negative, degrading thoughts to take over your mind. Start gradually building your awareness of these negative thoughts, reject them from your mind and focus on some positive thoughts to keep “rewriting” the old, limiting messages you have absorbed.
Example: You are going about your day like usual, when suddenly you see your reflection in a store window and you feel frustrated because you are still overweight. Negative thoughts start running through your mind: “Wow, I can’t believe I’m still so overweight! When will I ever achieve my goal? I’m so tired of trying to lose weight and not getting anywhere. I can’t stand looking and feeling like this anymore.”
Needless to say, these negative thoughts are not at all in alignment with the positive outcome you are trying to create – feeling great about your body! To change the outer reality, you need to first change the inner reality by choosing better thoughts.
“I may not be satisfied by the size and shape of my body yet, but it doesn’t have to be this way forever. I believe that I can release excess pounds easily, and steadily feel better and better about my body. I believe that someday soon I will be happy about the reflection I see in the mirror. I can learn to appreciate my body, and my positive focus will just keep attracting more physical attributes to appreciate.”
Stay with this positive stream of thoughts for several minutes, and you will alter the energetic “signal” you are sending out to the universe. Rather than a signal filled with “dissatisfaction about my body” you will be communicating “feel good about my body” (even if some of that feel-good energy is about the future rather than the present). In response, your improved signal will start attracting an improved reality.
The bigger changes will happen over time, but even right from the beginning you should notice some smaller changes that motivate you to keep working on it. Don’t get upset if it seems to be progressing slowly – eventually you will build momentum and find it much easier to stay focused on positive thoughts while dismissing any stray negative thoughts.
