If you suffer from hypertension than you may want to try a herbal blood pressure treatment. Herbal treatments will not have as many side effects or interactions as medications as many people do not like how medications make them feel. If you do not treat your high blood pressure than this can lead to long term serious heart problems. Hypertension does not necessarily have any symptoms so you may not know if you have it.

A few known causes of high blood pressure include your family history, stress, high sodium levels, cigarettes, not exercising, your age, too much alcohol, high levels of potassium, the use of tobacco products and being overweight. Hypertension can be caused by many different things and yours can be from one issues or a combination of several issues.

A popular product that can be very effective for mild hypertension is garlic. Garlic has been studied in research and it works by thinning out the blood, very similar to taking aspirin. Garlic can cause problems with other medications so you need to check with your doctor before taking any.

Another herbal treatment is hawthorn and this can significantly lower the diastolic pressure and does not interact with any other products or drugs. Another product is fish oil as this contains omega 3 fatty acids which have been shown to be beneficial to the heart. Folic acid can also help lower blood pressure by controlling homocystein levels and it is also important for forming red blood cells.

A very powerful herbal treatment is Rauwolfia serpentine. If you take too much or do not follow the dosage properly than this can cause serious side effects. You only need a small amount to make a large difference. At small doses there are no side effects. Another herb that works in the same way as Rauwolfia is Mistletoe. Again you have to follow the dosage properly as Mistletoe can be toxic.

There are also herbs that can increase your blood pressure so you need to avoid these products. Some things to avoid include Yohinbine, Ma Huang and licorice. Make sure you talk to your doctor before you take any herbal treatments to ensure they will not interact with anything you may be currently taking.

Eating the right foods and following the correct diet can also make a huge impact on your high blood pressure. There is a specific diet called the DASH diet which was developed to lower blood pressure. This diet focuses on eating nuts, fruits, low fat dairy products, beans and vegetables. The daily sodium intake is limited. This diet can have positive effects just after two weeks.
