One of the most common mistakes made when a person is trying to lose weight is to skip meals. We naturally think that the less we eat, the more weight we will lose. Actually, the opposite is true. When we don’t eat often enough throughout the day, our bodies become low-energy, food-craving, fat-storing machines.

Sometimes referred to it as famine response, is the reason for this phenomenon. The body itself does not know when you will have your food next, and adjusts appropriately if you go without eating for a lengthy duration.

Because it wants to avoid starvation, the body starts hanging on to all of its fat as if survival depended on it. Your metabolic rate of fat burn becomes much more sluggish and energy levels are reduced.

The solution for this problem is to consume small meals every three hours. You may be worried that eating this much throughout the day will cause you to gain weight and it can if you eat the wrong types of food. But eating this frequently will also increase your energy level and help you burn more calories and fat each day.

Naturally, the size of your meals will be small, but that won’t really matter since you will be eating more frequently. Make sure you are filling up on healthy foods that boost metabolism and encourage weight loss. Some great foods for raising your metabolism are grapefruit, broccoli, apples, pears, oatmeal, lean turkey, and low-fat yogurt.

When you put water into your body it makes your metabolism faster and helps with weight loss. Be sure to drink a lot of water (at least 9 8-oz glasses) throughout the day; this will keep your appetite in check and make it easier to keep to small portions when you have your meals. Sometimes rather than having a hunger for food, but rather a thirst for liquid.

Drinking water also helps to flush harmful toxins from your body and reduce bloating. If you just can’t bring yourself to drink that much water, then try substituting green tea for some of your liquid intake. It’s also great for raising metabolism.

Unbelievably, eating more food is able to help you with losing weight. In fact, if you just can’t get past that plateau try taking a few more calories for a few days in order to get your metabolism back up to speed.

Your body will immediately start to adjust and begin burning up the extra fuel giving you excess energy. Channel that into some great workouts and exercise. You may find yourself quickly shedding the pounds once again.
