We see a lot of packaged diet foods on the shelf these days. These may be promoted as Lite, Diet, low carb, low calorie, or low fat foods. But since the US has a big obesity problem, and since we Americans buy a lot of diet foods, one has to question these packaged foods.

What Diet Foods Will Help us Lose Weight?

Some obvious food choices that help people lose weight are fruits and vegetables. They contain a lot of water. This helps us feel like we are eating a good amount of food without adding a lot of calories to our daily diet.

Take Meat on the Side

Does that mean we have to eat like rabbits? No, we can still enjoy our favorites, but we should treat them more like side dishes. The old way of eating was to have a large main dish with smaller sides of vegetables or salad. The new way of eating means we have a large salad and portion of fruit and vegetables, while treating our protein like a side dish!

Fruit is nature’s candy, and even kids will be happy to grab handfuls of sweet grapes instead of junk food. You can eat a lot of grapes for the same calories you get in one candy bar. In fact, you will probably decide that you do not even want to eat that many grapes. You will be full.

Enjoy The Perfect Chocolate Diet Food

Do you crave chocolate. Well, we say that is fine. Instead of eating a big candy bar, try having a large glass of low fat chocolate milk or a nice mug of hot chocolate. You will satisfy your chocolate craving, take in few calories, and satisfy yourself better. The milk also provides minerals and vitamins your body uses.

Food with No Real Calories

You can still enjoy your favorite foods. But if you dice up some veggies for your pasta sauce, you can reduce the amount of calories per serving. You can still eat the same portions, and even take seconds, without adding calories to your diet. If you feel satisfied that you have eaten enough food, you will be unlikely to overeat later too.

Other foods are so high in fiber that they do not add real calories to your diet. Konnyaku noodles are a popular example. These can be used as pasta, or mixed with regular pasta. They add fiber, but do not add calories.

Can You Still Dine Out?

You can go to your favorite restaurants. Try to start your meal with a large salad. When you order your meal, select vegetables or fruit instead of fries. If you have to have dessert, try to order fruit.

What Diet Foods Work

Experts have tested diets. They found that people who concentrate on eating a lot of high water content and high fiber food, without giving up favorite treats, tend to take off weight and keep it off.
