Millions of dollars are spent annually on health and beauty products such as make up and face cream. But often, women will ignore the most important part of their body. Their feet!

With so many of us living in northern climates, our feet are tucked away inside shoes and socks, never to been seen until summer arrives. It’s easy to forget to lavish them with cream and oil. It’s sometimes a shock at the end of the day, when you’re getting ready for bed and you put your feet up to watch TV and notice how dry and rough your feet have become.

It’s worse if you’re overweight or past menopause. Maybe you’ve noticed that your feet are so cracked that they catch on your comforter. Please, pay attention to your feet! They work so hard for you!

Many women will indulge themselves with a pedicure at their local salon or a spa downtown. Pedis, as they are often called, start at about $75 for a good one. But you can easily take care of your feet at home by spending a few minutes just a couple of times a week, if you have the right products and the right tools.

Go to the store and buy yourself some nice products for your feet. Look for a foot cream with a mild abrasive such as pumice. This will soften and slough away that horrible rough skin. They should also contain an essential oil that will leave your feet tingly and fresh. Foot scrubs can leave you feeling invigorated, but if you’re the type of person who finds the abrasiveness uncomfortable, there’s something else you can try.

A pumice stone is one of the oldest remedies for treating calloused feet. There are also foot files or foot buffers sold at boutique health and beauty shops. After a good soaking in warm, soapy water, these products rubbed against the feet will shed dead skin leaving nice, youthful pink skin. Don’t rub too hard or you’ll be sore for a day or so.

Heel balm is a specially made moisturizing product designed for rough heels. Check the label for urea, which is made specifically for the feet. It should contain 10% to 20% urea to be effective. Look for heel products with lanolin for maximum effect.

Pamper your feet with a cooling foot spray. These can freshen up sweaty or tired feet, but the effects don’t last forever.

Foot spray will help you feel refreshed, but if swollen feet are a daily occurrence for you, you might need to have that looked at by your doctor. But if you’ve just been standing too long, a nice foot spray will change your outlook on life. Try peppermint. It will turn you into a new woman.

A foot deodorant may be just what you need if you’re embarrassed to take off your shoes. An antiperspirant food deodorant with active ingredients to stop your feet from sweating, and therefore, smelling, can be found in a drug store.

Possible causes of stinky feet are synthetic socks, synthetic shoes (non-leather) or even a hormonal imbalance. Reflexologists can sometimes activate the pituitary gland by massaging the big toe. Not wearing the same shoes every day can also help.
