Are you really living your life or is it is just using you? There’s an old expression about “stop and smell the roses” and if you don’t know exactly what that means you had better take a second to find out. Smelling the roses isn’t about meetings, business travel, and high priced hotels, making enough money to fly first class or designer clothes. It’s about waking up in the morning and feeling genuinely happy to be alive and it’s about feeling that every day that you’re around; somehow the world became a better place for having you here.
1. Eat Better Food. One of the worst things about a hectic life is that you won’t eat very good food. Even if you’re moving in real up market circles and dining several times a week in high priced restaurants, you’re still eating restaurant food and it is rarely healthy. Too much red meat, too many rich sauces, sugar, alcohol and not enough raw fruits and vegetables- do not make for a long life.
3. Find yourself a hobby. Garden, knit, sew, build models, build furniture or do anything you want as long as if accomplishes one thing and that is that it relaxes you. Any activity that relaxes you and makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something that makes you feel good qualifies as a hobby. Find something that you always wanted to do and start to do it. It will make you a happier and more complete person.
3. Get lots of antioxidants into your system. By eating lots of fruits and vegetables – especially lots of dark green and blue foods, you’ll be able to help your body fight the damage caused by free radicals. There isn’t enough space in this article to fully explain the relationship between free radicals, anti oxidants and the aging process, but you will be well advised to learn about antioxidants and in particular CoEnzymeQ10 and Glutathione
4. Make spending time with the people you love and who love you, your number one priority. When families and marriages fall apart, the effects are devastating – and they’re even worse if right now your lack of attention to them is already killing your relationship with someone close to you. It happens every single day. The fact that you’re working 60 hour weeks to buy all the things you know you family wants will come back to slap you in the face when you turn around one day and find they’re gone, because you weren’t there. You cannot have your cake and eat it too.
5. Develop a new skill – giving. As the world becomes a faster and in many, many ways crueler place, more good souls will fall through the cracks. Maybe at one point they made a stupid mistake, maybe not. You have it in your power to help. Do it. Give up some time or some money or a bit of both and find a cause that you can support – and support it. It’s a wonderful thing to do for you.
These are just some simple ideas. They’re good for you. They’re good for the people around you and they’re good for people who might never have a chance to meet you. Make little changes all the time – they’re easy to do and make your life the most wonderful and rewarding experience that it can be.
