There are a lot of diets out there which have been thought to be effective, but the fact of the matter is that a lot of them are unsafe. Many of them do not work very well over the long term. One of the more popular diets is called the South Beach Diet. This diet focuses on changing your overall eating habits and when used in combination with exercise, has been proven to be a very effective fat loss program.

Poor eating habits is probably the number one reason many people are overweight. Busy lives and the overwhelming amount of fast food make it difficult for people to stay thin and trim. Therefore the best way to lose weight is to learn better food choices, this is the focus of the South Beach diet. Like several other diet plans, this one encourages you to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Of course, no one wants to follow a fat loss program that is not enjoyable. The South Beach plan will show you how to choose healthy foods that taste good as well. The most important part of this diet plan is the first two weeks. If you get the book and follow the guidelines set forth, you will find that in the first two weeks you can lose up to 13 pounds of fat or more. You simply have to follow the directions.

You will not be allowed to eat any bread products for two weeks. This includes cakes, cookies, crackers, pizza, and loaf bread. You will also not be able to eat white potatoes and noodles of any kind. Instead, you will eat eggs, Canadian bacon, mixed vegetables, fish, and other similar foods as well as drink a lot of water. No sodas are allowed during the beginning of this diet and neither are sweetened juice drinks.

A good fat loss program focuses on the basic nutritional requirements of the individual. So many people cram their diets with processed and snack foods that it makes it almost impossible for them to lose any weight. Even the results of a good workout can be hindered due to faulty eating choices.

All foods are not the same, for instance a candy bar has as many calories as a chicken salad covered in vegetables and low fat or fat free dressing. For fat loss, it is best to go with the nutritionally complete food instead of one that just tickles your taste buds. Snacks are okay occasionally, but when they become a fixed part of your diet there is a problem.

Foods which are high in sugar and processed carbs can wreck your diet and health. Fast foods are usually not recommended by any fat loss program and always contain an enormous amount of calories. Research has proven that most fast food meals contain as much calories as the daily recommended amount. It has also been proven that you can gain up to five pounds a week by eating out at fast food restaurants everyday.

The South Beach Diet and others like it have shown positive results for people across the globe. Some think these are just fad diets, but the truth is they teach the things that work for weight loss. You probably already know that healthy food is better for you than processed foods; however did you know they fill you up more Vegetables, lean meat, fruits and whole grains are chock full of fiber, which is a substance that makes you feel full longer than any other substance. The South Beach Diet is a fat loss program for people who enjoy food but would also like to lose fat!
