When considering a new diet many potential dieters are drawn to fast weight loss diets. They assume that it will be just as simple as any other dieter with more intense weight loss results. These same dieters find themselves frustrated as they try multiple weight loss programs with little success. Hard work that isn’t rewarded is entirely frustrating. Forever aiming at a weight loss goal and never reaching it can destroy an individual’s will power; especially when they see friends, neighbors, co-workers and more succeeding on THEIR weight loss programs.
When it comes to fast weight loss diets there are several common mistakes that make it nearly impossible to succeed. One of the very first is lack of commitment. This doesn’t mean that we’re worried about how long you’ve been dating your current significant other or how long you’ve been waiting to set a date for the wedding. That’s an entirely different set of issues. Commitment issues in relation to weight loss can knock a dieter off kilter quicker than anything else.
Commitment issues can really decrease weight loss success rates by:
1. Decreasing the chances that dieters will be able to withstand temptation. Dieters that aren’t actually committed to sticking to the diet rules are far more likely to make random exceptions. And breaking the rules frequently drastically decreases chances for success.
2. It makes it easier for dieters to feel they have an “out” when it comes to fast weight loss diets and their rules.
3. Too many options: lack of commitment leaves dieters with too many options. When a dieter is fully committed the options are much more limited. Eating something that isn’t okay for the diet at hand isn’t an option. Taking a day off isn’t an option. Switching from one diet to another before the program is completed isn’t an option.
4. Dieters who aren’t committed often don’t even believe in their chances for weight loss success; lack of believe will lead dieters to fail.
We’ve all got one issue or another. I have mine and you have yours…but not all of us are aware of the issues. The first step is to identify the issues that are holding you back. If you have a lack of commitment you need to know it. Then you need to decide if you can overcome that particular issue. Can you be committed to your current fast weight loss diet? If the answer is no then you should just accept yourself the way you are and stop half-heartedly dieting.
Dieting requires commitment. Fast weight loss diets in particular typically require higher levels of commitment than other diets. You either commit to follow the rules and lose weight or you don’t and then you don’t lose weight. “Dieting” and not following the rules is an utter waste of time.
But if you are, in fact, able to identify one of your issues as lack of commitment and take it to the next step by overcoming it then you can definitely move forward with fast weight loss diets (your choice, of course). Look for one that offers a bonafide weight loss strategy not just empty promises. check to make sure that it has a history of weight loss success. And once you’ve done your research and made your decision…jump in and really do it. Commitment is a good thing!
