While you may be convinced that the raw food diet will give you more energy and help you lose weight, you might be thinking there’s no way you can eat nothing but raw food all day. I’m here to tell you – I understand! You don’t have to go all the way, 100% raw to start getting benefits from the diet. Making a radical change like this is hard, especially when we enjoy dinner at home with the family, or look forward to an evening out dining with friends.
If you don’t think you can completely change to raw foods yet, try going raw through out the day at work or school. Do you brown bag it for lunch? Throw in a raw soup, sprouts and fruit. If you usually have lunch out, or worse, fast food, go to restaurants that serve salads. Make sure you have plenty of snacks to munch on during the day, like carrot sticks, apples or dried fruit.
I know what you’re thinking – steamed brown rice and veggies for lunch? What?? But think about it – heavy, fat-laden lunches tend to make you feel sluggish as your body works to digest it all. Why do you think you’re always so tired in the afternoons at work? Having a lunch of lighter raw food, plus having fruits and other raw foods to snack on will keep your energy high all day.
The business culture is different these days, and there’s less of a routine than there used to be with a morning “coffee break” and then “lunch hour” and an afternoon “break.” That routine doesn’t work for a lot of people any more, but you can still get hungry during the day. By taking a variety of raw foods with you to work, you can munch periodically during the day.
If you go too long without eating, you get too hungry and make bad decisions about what you should eat. You can avoid getting too hungry during the day by having some good raw snacks to munch on. An apple in your desk drawer helps you avoid that chocolate bar from the snack machine. Keeping raw food snacks available at all times helps you maintain a steady blood sugar level, and keeps your metabolism running along.
