There\’s a whole bunch of guys that will tell you they want to lose some body fat and weight. The thing is, most of them never get it done. Besides the ones that never even try or never take it seriously, the rest fall victim to not knowing how to stay motivated. I can promise you that if your motivation isn\’t what it should be, you will fail. So let me give you four simple questions you need to answer in order to keep your motivation level high. You should definitely write down each answer and keep them somewhere (it gets better results).
Before I get into the questions, let me tell you why this is so powerful. Let\’s say you are out of shape and are about to start a fat loss program. In the beginning it will not be fun. You will be uncomfortable as you struggle to get through your workout. You\’ll find yourself out of breath, fatigued, and most likely sore for at least the next 24 hours. This is the time when you are most likely to quit. However, if you have answered these questions, it will give you a clear picture of what you are working towards. That will be enough to keep you motivated until you start seeing results. Once that happens, you will have all the motivation you need to keep going.
1. What improvments do you want to make to your body? Don\’t think about the negative things you want to lose, instead think about the positive things you want to gain. Picture that new body in your mind and write a detailed description of it down on paper.
2. Why do you want to improve your body? Any answer is correct as long as it\’s honest. I\’m talking about that thing that you really want to have. It could be to feel more empowered, or to have more energy. Maybe you just want more attention from women. Whatever your motivation is, state that as your answer.
3. How are you going to get there? Again, you need to be detailed. Write out what fat loss program you are going to use (should include workout and nutrition). How many days per week are you going to workout (should be at least 3x strength training and 2-3x cardio)? What time of day? It all needs to be laid out in a plan.
4. How bad do you want it? This is the litmus test. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the most), how bad do you want to lose the fat and pounds? Let me tell you something that most trainers won\’t. If you think your level of desire is anything less than an eight, don\’t even waste your time. The truth is you have to want it really bad to get through the first 3-4 weeks of adjustment. Nobody can make you want it, that part is up to you.
Pull your answers out and reflect on them anytime you are thinking about quitting or breaking your plan. This will give you the drive you need to keep going.
