Obesity and being overweight is reaching epidemic proportions in the United States right now. Our inactive lifestyles and the Standard American Diet are making us chubby, idle and out of shape. We don’t work out and we don’t eat right.

Our ancestors needed to develop in such a way as to ensure survival. Therefore our bodies naturally keep fat and energy in order to guard us from the times of food shortage. These days the only food shortage that we ever experience is the self-imposed famines that we suffer when we go on a limiting diet.

But our bodies do not discriminate between a restrictive diet and a scarcity. We go on a diet and our bodies interrupt our efforts by slowing down our metabolism and conserving every bit of fat and energy that it can. That is one of the reasons why it gets more difficult to lose weight with every consequent diet.

The key to the trouble may be as easy as to end the diet roller-coaster and start eating. In other words, begin working with your inherent biology and begin eating the way your body was designed to eat.

It is more than only starting to eat again, however. The Standard American Diet, which is also known by the fitting acronym SAD greatly contributes to obesity and being overweight. The rationale why is that our bodies were never planned to consume the detrimental, nutritionally bankrupt and processed foods that are so profuse in our culture.

As humans we are intended to eat the wholesome, healthful, natural foods that come from nature. The planet naturally supplies the foods that are optimal for our bodies and that includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains and even fish and lean meats. It does not include the foods that are found in a package in the middle of your neighborhood superstore. The less processed and more natural a food is the healthier it is for our bodies.

As humans we were also intended to move and work out. None of our ancestors led a deskbound life. They were always up and around, moving about in the course of living. If you want to achieve optimum health including losing weight you need to include both exercise and an optimum nutrition diet.

So if you want to combat obesity and lose weight for good not to mention create optimal health start eating the healthiest foods in nature and begin an work out plan. Your body will thank you and you will see the results on your bathroom scale.
