You are fat. Your neighbor is probably fat. Most adult Americans are fat. Let’s face, we are a fat nation filled with fat people that can’t get enough to eat. Even if you don’t consider yourself fat, you probably wouldn’t object to being able to easily lose a few pounds, right?
One of the strangest things in modern history is that the more developed and well off a country gets, the fatter it’s people become. Most people in most of the developed nations today have a few extra pounds on them, to say the least.
Is there a reason behind all this blubber? Is there a secret cause behind this rotund effect? Why did people get so fat?
For one thing, we don’t work as hard as we used to. Most people nowadays can work a pretty easy job, sitting at a desk, taking the elevator up and down, and not even getting up off the couch to change the channel on the TV. So that’s one reason we’re so fat. We don’t get enough exercise.
Another obvious, or maybe not so obvious reason, is the stuff we put in our mouths every day. Most of it is processed, filled with chemicals and mass produced. Which makes sense. Lots of the food we eat comes from all over the world. If they didn’t put all those preservatives in there, it wouldn’t last as long, and it would be much more expensive.
And supposing you head outside for a bite to eat, which is more common, fresh fruit and vegetable stands everywhere, or the golden arches? Yep. And these places are filled with the least nutritious, most fatty foods you can imagine.
And if you are ever hungry, and you go shopping, where are you more likely to head, the cucumber section, or the frozen food microwave section? Or that section of most supermarkets today where they have food that is just as bad as fast food, but smells so good?
And what about the people behind all this? They make billions and billions every year from selling us crap. Do you think they really care if we get all the associated health problems with being fat, or even cut our lives short by ten or twenty years? Nope, didn’t think so.
There is a growing suspicion that this whole mess we live in was carefully designed by those that want to take advantage of our natural tendency to eat delicious food, just so they could make a profit. I don’t know if that’s true, but they sure are making a profit.
So what do we do? Try and exercise. Try and stay away from fast and processed food. Turn off your TV. Go for a walk. It might be difficult at first, but when you realize your life depends on it, it gets easier.
