Common diet mistakes are made by many dieters. As a result their lose weight diets or programs may not work and permanent weight loss does not seem possible. This is a very frustrating situation and many dieters simply give up.

This article provides a few different examples of mistakes people make when dieting. If you can learn to avoid them, most likely you will be able to succeed with your dieting efforts and finally lose weight.

1. Boring, same type of food. Some weight loss diets lack versatility. They consist of a diet plan that uses similar foods at all times. How boring is that? No one can sustain a diet that is dull and unimaginative. This does not bode well for success. Inevitably you will succumb to your cravings and begin to indulge in foods that are detrimental to your weight loss efforts.

2. Going all out. Many people believe that when they start something they must give it the fullest effort. That is a good belief. Unfortunately, many dieters go over – board. They clean out their cupboards and fridge of “undesirable” foods. They throw out the foods they love and ones that may be tempting them to cheat. This is one of the worst diet mistakes. During your diet you will miss some of your foods. What is even more difficult is your thought that you will never be able to have these foods. The outcome is that you will be running out to the store, picking up the container of ice cream and eating it at one sitting. When you leave some of the foods you love (within reason) in your house, just the mere fact that they are there will satisfy you and help you overcome your cravings.

3. Eating too little. Commonly, at the beginning, eager dieters think that less is more. This is not true and it is not sustainable. Hunger is the worst thing when you are dieting. An average daily requirement for a moderately active people is 2000 calories for women and 2500 calories for men. Generally, a healthy diet will suggest no more than a 500 calorie per day decrease while dieting. Anything less may harm your health as you may begin to lack essential nutrients. Please, always check with your physician when starting a weight loss program.

In life, we learn from our mistakes and try to avoid them in the future. And so we learn from our diet mistakes. When we accept them, acknowledge them and correct them, our goal of permanent weight loss will be within reach.
