There are a few things anyone considering a detox needs to know. One, what is a detox? Two, what does it take to get a great diet detox? These questions should have obvious answers, but because there are endless products, groups and detox regimens to chose from, most people never even figure out the answere to number one -what is a detox?

The best way to define detox is to describe it as the process of removing impurities from the body. In normal conditions the blood is cleaned by the liver and all other systems by the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph and skin. The need for a detox arises when our bodies\’ natural ability to remove toxins is congested by external stresses and impurities.

The cleansing powers of a detox are most needed to jump start the body\’s natural systems and help get you out of a funk that is induced by toxic build up. Among the many ways to accomplish a quality detox, a few stand out as the most popular and effective methods. Of these effective methods, portable infrared saunas are one of the leading and fastest growing tools used in detox programs.

The popularity of portable infrared saunas arose out of their strong ability to detox the everyday user. FIR saunas induce hyperthermia or fever, which is the body\’s built in way of riding itself of viruses, bacteria and other toxic compounds through sweating them out through the skin. One of the better known ways to induce a rise in body temperature (hyperthermia) is by using an infrared sauna. The resulting increased blood circulation stimulates the sweat glands, which then expel waste and built-up toxins through the skin.

Daily sweating can help detoxify the body as it rids itself of an accumulation of potentially carcinogenic heavy metals (lead, mercury, nickel, cadmium, aluminum) as well as alcohol, nicotine, sodium, sulfuric acid, arsenic, cholesterol, ammonia, uric acid, hydrocarbon residues, narcotic drugs and hormone disrupting chemicals (dioxins, PCBs, formaldehyde, agricultural chemicals, industrial chemicals, gasoline, pesticides, food additives, etc.). These toxins may be deposited deep beneath the skin in the body fat and internal organs. Infrared is able to penetrate deep into the body and cause a resonance in the water molecules that surrounds the cells. Because the far infrared frequency matches that of the body, this resonance allows the water molecules to move more freely in and out through the membrane of the cells. As sweat and oils and secreted, the toxins dissolved in them are secreted as well.

If you are on a budget or short for time, but you need to get a good detox, you may find that adding a half-hour session in an infrared sauna is the best choice. Your detox diet doesn\’t have to be complicated, keep it simple.
