Kids should be able to enjoy Cinco de Mayo, too. How about making the day even more fun for them with some games to play? Some can even be fun for adults, so invite any adults present to participate.

Break the Pinata

Everyone loves a good pinata smashing. Blindfold each contestant when it is his or her turn. Spin them around slowly a few times then hand them the bat, rod, or broom. Guide them in the general direction of the pinata, making sure no one is in the way. You may want to either use a timer or count how many tries each participant gets depending on how many people line up to try.

After filling everyone up with treats try a Mexican hat race. With this relay, you run off all that energy from the sugar. Get a couple of sombreros. Split everyone into two teams. Have the teams pick which hat is theirs and place that sombrero on the other side of the room or yard. The players race in pairs over to the hat, dance three times in a circle around it, and race back to tag the next person on the team. To win, your team must be the first to finish.

Scavenger hunts can be fun. Grab some assorted items for the teams to search for that are related to Mexico in some way. You can use flags, dried chili peppers, avocados, paper sombreros, and so on. Make sure to have enough of each item for the number of teams you will have. Scavenger hunts are a great game for teaming up kids with adults. Write some clues that will provide them some ideas of where to look for each item. The first team who comes back with all the required items wins.

Set up a coloring area for the kids. Provide plenty of crayons and coloring pages of Mexican themed pictures. Other fun things to keep kids occupied may include maracas they can play with, colorful ponchos and hats they can dress up in, and music to listen to.

Cinco de Mayo should be fun for everyone. Provide fun party favors for everyone, young and old. Maracas, inexpensive party sombreros or other fun items will keep the party atmosphere alive. Let the music play and encourage everyone to dance if they want.

Cannot forget food and beverages, of course. Every good party must have food! Choose your favorite Mexican dish. If you are looking to keep things simple, finger foods like quesadilla wedges, nachos, or salsa and chips are good choices. Make plenty of dip for all to enjoy.

Authentic Cinco de Mayo recipes can be fun for all. If you want to add an air of tradition to your dishes, add peppers, corn (maize), beans and other Mexican staples that are used in Mexican cuisine. Make it easy and have fun with your friends and family.

Your Cinco de Mayo party is sure to be a hit with all the fun and games. Take time to plan it out so everyone has a grand old time. It will be well worth all the effort once you see the joyful guests heading back home, wishing the party would not come to a close.

Quick Mexican recipes like carne asada will let you enjoy the flavors of Mexico any night of the week. Some Mexican recipes require time and patience, but there are many recipes you can toss together in a very short time to feed your family.
