Knowing what your weight should be is a huge help to determine what your weight loss target should be. And this target will help you minimize the risk to your health of being overweight. Even if you do weigh yourself often, just knowing your weight is not all that needs to be known.

Knowing what your BMI should be is the best way to determine what your target weight should be. Your BMI is factored using your height and weight in a basic math equation.

Your BMI is figured by first taking your current weight and multiplying that by 703. Take that result and divide it by your height converted to inches. Take that result and again divide it by your height converted to inches. The resulting number is your BMI.

Once you know your final BMI number, you can take that to a BMI chart and determine where you are. You are shooting for the healthy range. A healthy BMI range is somewhere between 18.5 and 24.9. The overweight range is a BMI between 25 and 29.9. The obese range is anything 30 and above. On the other end, a BMI under 18.5 is considered to be underweight.

Now that you know your BMI, you will have a general idea of where you are health wise. The higher your number, the more at risk you are for health problems. High blood pressure, diabetes, heart attacks and premature death are among the common risk factors.

The BMI scale is not always a 100% accurate account of precisely where your weight needs to be. The frame of your body needs to be taken into account somewhat. If you have big bones, your body is able to handle a little extra weight and still be healthy. Conversely, if you have a smaller frame, you can do without some weight and still be healthy.

Know your body and determine what your weight should be from those factors. No one single calculation is a guarantee but it is a very good estimate of what you should shoot for.
