Certain diet books that have recently hit the market promote low protein intakes for losing fat and for general health. Could a low protein intake help you lose arm fat?

Absolutely not.

It is too bad that these savvy marketers are feeding you lies just to make a quick buck. Unfortunately, a low protein intake could really put a dent in your general health.

So without further ado, here are some reasons why low protein is not good for losing arm fat:

1. Thin skin. A low protein intake will leave your skin very thin. And thick skin serves as the first barrier against invading germs. One bout of sickness can leave your sexy arm mission in the dust.

2. Compromised digestion. Whenever restricting calories to lose arm fat, you need to be able to extract as much nutrition as possible from whatever you are eating. Unfortunately, low protein intakes will damage your digestive tract membrane.

3. Cannibalization of organs. One of the first organs to get cannibalized when reducing protein are your immune system organs. The spleen, thymus gland and lymph nodes fall into this category. And remember that a single bout of serious sickness can set back your arm fat mission by weeks.

4. Generalized decrease in immunity. Your body needs protein to manufacture antibodies. It needs protein to fight off the invaders that are constantly trying to make you sick. And less protein decreases the speed and magnitude of your defense response.

5. Decreased muscle gains. More muscle mass translates into accelerated arm fat burning. Period. And if you do not eat enough protein, your body will not recover from exercise. And it will not maximize the accumulation of muscle mass either.

If you want to lose arm fat, a low protein intake is NOT the way to go. Not only will you decrease the amount of calories your body burns around the clock, but you will also increase your frequency of sickness. And a single bout of sickness can set back your sexy arm mission by many steps.
