Do your food cravings always win?
How many diets have you been on that were totally sabotaged by giving in to your cravings?
Eating healthy and exercising regularly in order to lose weight is a decision that is made many times. We are usually going along being successful when suddenly a craving blindsides us. Perhaps it is the smell of something we love, or watching someone else eat what we are craving that raises our stress level and sends our great intentions out the window. We are overcome with the craving and so satisfy, giving in to any willpower or resistance that we may have had.
Satisfying the craving often fills us with guilt or even self hatred. We feel like a failure because once again we have let the craving be in control. This lowers our self-esteem and we enter a cycle of not feeling good about ourselves and satisfying our craving because it provides comfort.
So what are some ways to deal with cravings? Here are a few ideas.
1. DO NOT bring the food you crave into the house. Even if that affects other family members, explain that it is for your health and even sanity that the food not enter your home.
2. When you get a really bad craving, STOP and first drink a glass of water. Then, set the timer if you have to, but wait 15 minutes before you give in to your craving. Chances are it will have passed.
3. Grazing at a get-together can sabotage all of your success. So head to the vegetable end of the table, put what you want on a plate, and then move away from the table. Take a glass of water with you. Find an interesting person to talk with.
4. If you see someone else enjoying what you really crave, do an about face and head for the glass of water again. Water is very satisfying to the body and more times then not will keep your cravings at bay.
Is there a connection between weight loss and cravings? Don’t you think that if your cravings didn’t flare up you could more easily stay on your choice of healthy foods? If you didn’t crave anything, then you wouldn’t be putting the extra calories in your body. To say nothing of the sugar, sodium, and fat! Also, you wouldn’t be losing control and lowering your self-esteem. Dealing with your cravings should make your weight loss easier to attain.
Cravings can also be controlled with one of these methods:
1. Through the use of Hypnotherapy, you can figure out your emotional reasons for eating. Once that is done, your conscious mind can make better decisions and learn to control your cravings.
2. Another method is Emotional Freedom Technique. This is also called Tapping. Tapping helps the negative energy in your body change to positive energy. At this point, your cravings dissipate and your reaction to this food you crave is neutralized.
Cravings are hard for most people. When you are craving something, you lose control of the situation. Don’t let that happen. At least grab a glass of water. Make yourself drink the whole thing before you give in. You will find that this is the beginning of being in control
Once you’ve downed the water, you might want to look in to one of the alternative solutions. They are systems that really do work!
