Carbohydrates are the key to peak performance, optimal mental functioning and accelerated fat burning. And getting more carbs into your muscles post-workout will enhance all of the above.

Unfortunately, most people do not know how to maximize the amount of carbs their body can absorb right after a workout.

So here are 6 strategies for increasing carbohydrate absorption post training:

1. Work your muscles to exhaustion: This is by far the best way to prime your muscles for the best carbohydrate absorption possible after your workout. You need to drain them of any carbohydrate stores if you want them to be as responsive as possible.

2. Don’t focus too much on negative contractions: Negative contractions do cause more muscle damage which in turn could theoretically increase muscle growth. The issue here is that not only are negative contractions boring, but they also decrease the amount of carbs your muscles can suck up.

3. Have a shake: You want to do this immediately after training, not during any other time of the day. The reason you want a shake is because there is a limited window of super carbohydrate absorption right after a workout.

4. Add some protein to the shake: The key here is that the protein should be no more than one fourth of the amount of carbohydrates. If you have too much protein you will absorb less carbs which is exactly what you don’t want.

5. Have insulin mimickers with your liquid meal: Now this is really advanced here, but it works. As a starting point, I would recommend having cinnamon with your liquid meal. Then, if you want, you can add some alpha lipoic acid and vanadyl sulfate.

6. Eat a balanced meal after training: About half an hour after your shake, you want to have a balanced meal for best results. A balanced meal will top off your carbohydrate stores without causing excess fat storage. So don’t wait too long before eating after your workout.

Getting your body to absorb more carbs after exercise is a great way to accelerate your progress. Just make sure you take action here because without action you will get nowhere!
