Can you count all the weight loss tips you know? How many of them actually work? Where did you find these tips? You have probably read about lots of interesting tips in the health and fitness magazines, in your online searches, and even your friends have told you great ways to lose weight, especially fat.
I won’t insult your intelligence by lecturing on things you already know. But just so we are all on the same page, let’s agree that fewer calories in and more calories out is one of the answers. The other thing we should agree on, even though we constantly hold out HOPE, is that fad diets, weight loss pills and supplements, and one more piece of exercise equipment are not the answer either.
The problem is that the weight loss industry is filled with myths and misleading information. Why is this? Maybe it’s because they want you to buy their products. People also misinterpret information and so truths may get twisted. Here are three common myths and the truth about each one.
Myth #1: It is possible to spot reduce fat. NO, that is not possible. You cannot force only one part of your body to reduce. Working on only one area of your body often results in outcomes in other parts of your body you did not anticipate. For example, leg lifts and crunches actually burn muscle. rather than fat, below the belly. Give your entire body a great workout. Eat a healthy diet. These will speed up your metabolic rate and get that fat burning.
Myth #2: Body fat can be reduced by reducing your calorie intake drastically. Of course this is FALSE. Have you ever crash dieted? Did you really believe you could lose fat pounds rather than just some water and muscle weight? When we starve ourselves, our bodies react by entering starvation made. Our bodies decide they are being starved and so lower our metabolic rate and burn muscle rather than fat to produce energy. And once we go back to our regular habits, the weight is regained.
Myth #3: Cardio exercises alone will help you lose weight. FALSE once more. Yes, cardio and aerobic exercises can help you lose fat, but you need to add weight lifting. Actually, weight lifting is better than both cardio and aerobics. Why? Because weight lifting helps your body burn fat not only during the workout, but also after the workout. That is great news!
Three myths – all not true. Take the healthy path. Choose an eating plan that fits your life style while still remaining healthy. Add weight lifting to your workout routine. The result? A lean body.
