Is your slinky black dress starting to look sorta lumpy? Has your stomach been blocking your view of your toes…maybe you have a big dance or a reunion coming. Whatever the reason, you want to dump ten or so pounds and you’ve discovered the 3 day tuna diet. It looks fast, easy and perfect for your needs!
Before you dive into the deep end of the pool, there are a few things about the 3 day tuna diet that you should know before you make the decision to go ahead.
The 3 day tuna diet is one of the hottest ones out there. It rapidly soared to the tops of the popularity charts because people believe that there can’t be any health drawbacks because you are on the diet for a short amount of time.
Big mistake. The truth of the matter is that crash diets – ALL OF THEM – have a negative affect on your metabolism. The end result is that you will immediately gain back all your weight – PLUS! Your 10 pound irritation soon escalates to a 25 pound embarrassment!
The route to success for ALL crash diets is through starvation. That includes the 3 day tuna diet. It works to lose a few pounds at first, but starvation is also the reason why it’s unhealthy. If you aren’t getting enough calories, your body will slip into starvation mode – within the first day.
When your body – in an attempt to protect you – has switched over to starvation mode, it’s usually fairly easy to tell. You’ll feel sluggish and not want to do anything, you might start to dream about food (night dreams AND day dreams), you could have trouble keeping warm and will constantly be cold, specially in your extremities.
The 3 day tuna diet has so few calories, that it is very near to being a VLCD or “very low calorie diet”. Any diet that is under 1200 calories per day is considered a “low calorie diet”. Below 800 calories per day is considered “very low calorie.”
No adult should go on a “VLCD” without the direct supervision of a doctor – even then, you may want a second opinion. No matter how obese, no child should EVER be on a “VLCD” diet.
The name of the 3 day tuna diet suggests that you are only on the diet for 3 days…not true. You are on and off the diet for a full month. Plus, the foods are NOT a balanced diet and have no hope of ever creating a long term weight loss.
Refined carbohydrates make up a big part of the diet and have negligible nutritional value. Refined carbs can also create spikes in our bodies insulin production leading to food cravings, energy highs and lows…and medical issues.
Worse, even if you do manage to stick it out during the 3 days each week, your food cravings will make you gorge and overeat the other four days when you are not on the 3 day tuna diet. As far back as the 1970′s, studies have shown that the average dieter will gain back all their weight plus an average of 8 pounds in the weeks just after the diet.
Don’t lose hope. There are safe diets that work! They are designed to replace unhealthy habits and food choices and you will NEVER experience hunger.
