Maybe you’ve decided that your slinky black dress is becoming rather – shall we say, lumpy…Perhaps that dreaded school reunion is just around the corner, or you haven’t been able to see your toes for a while – whatever the cause, you need to drop 10 or 15 pounds. Enter, the 3 day tuna diet and it seems to be fast and easy. just what you were thinking of!

Hold off! There are a few facts about the 3 day tuna diet that you will want to know before you decide to get started.

As crash diets go, the 3 day tuna diet is very popular. The reason being that most people think there aren’t any health risks because you are on the diet for such a short time.

Big mistake. The truth of the matter is that crash diets – ALL OF THEM – have a negative affect on your metabolism. The end result is that you will immediately gain back all your weight – PLUS! Your 10 pound irritation soon escalates to a 25 pound embarrassment!

Crash diets all tend to rely on starvation and the 3 day tuna diet is no exception. That’s why they’re successful at first…and also why they aren’t healthy. Your caloric intake is far too low and will force your body into starvation mode within the first day!

It’s pretty easy to know when the 3 day tuna diet forces your body into starvation mode. You will start to feel sluggish, it will become increasingly difficult to perform normal daily tasks. Many people report dreaming about food when asleep – AND when awake. You may feel cold and have difficulty keeping warm. All of these are signals that your body – for your protection – has slipped into starvation mode.

Any diet below the 1200 calorie per day threshold is considered a low calorie diet. Any diet below 800 calories is considered to be a very low calorie diet. (VLCD) The 3 day tuna diet is very near to the “VLCD” level.

Regardless of the level of obesity, no child should EVER be on a “VLCD”. No adult should attempt it without close supervision of a doctor.

The name: 3 day tuna diet, is misleading. It makes you think that you are on the diet for only 3 days. That’s actually not the case…you are on and off for a full month. It’s not a balanced diet and you have no hope of keeping off the weight long term.

Be wary of the refined carbohydrates that make up such a large portion of the diet. They have minor if any nutritional value and will cause a spike in the production of insulin. Spiking and dropping off of insulin levels not only creates food cravings and energy highs and lows – but can lead to major medical difficulties.

As far back as the 1970′s researchers have discovered that in the weeks after the diet ends, the average dieter tends to regain everything plus an average of 8 pounds. This is because the food cravings created while on the 3 day tuna diet, force us to gorge and overeat when we’re not on the diet.

Don’t lose hope. There are safe diets that work! They are designed to replace unhealthy habits and food choices and you will NEVER experience hunger.
